First time I read "Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls 1" I was in north Italy working as an au pair, sitting in my hosthouse bathroom, reading out loud and looking after little Beatrice while she was having a bath. She loved it until she got tired of my Italian pronunciation with Spanish accent and asked me to just hold the book so she could read it out loud for us.
I got my own copy two years ago when my friend Julia bought it for me on my birthday. And this summer, very unexpectedly, a present arrived on the post mail, this time from Julia and Ester. It was "Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls 2". Couldn't be happier. Julia is in USA right now working as an au pair and Ester lives in the south of Spain so we don't see each other often as you can imagine. This is why receiving presents from them it's the nicest thing ever and makes me feel closer to them.
What can I say about these books that you don't know yet? Each book comes with 100 short stories/biographies of important women of our history, which come with a wonderful portrait made from a femail artist. I am fully in love with the books, for what they represent and because they are gorgeous. Checking on their website I saw that there is a third book coming "Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls: 100 Immigrant Women who Changed the World" and I really can't wait to get it. I specially love my copies because they are translated into Catalan. Nowadays it is a little difficult to find books translated into Catalan since publishing houses don't usually spend their money translating into Catalan (everyone in Catalonia understands Spanish) so these translations are usually subsidized by the government and you know...there's never money for culture.
I always try to make shorter posts but at the same time I like to tell you not only about the book but about me and my life too. ResponEliminaAunque no son el tipo de libros que yo escogería, no descarto leerlos algún día, porque ya he visto algunas reseñas muy positivas, y cada vez me causan más curiosidad. Como no estoy acostumbrada a este tipo de lecturas no sé si me gustarán, pero todo es probar. Pueden ser interesantes :)

ResponEliminalei estos dos libros cuando salieron, y me encantan. La verdad es que las biografias son muy cortas para mi gusto, pero son libros dedicados a los niños y son ideales para ellos. Mis dos hijos tambien los han leido y les encantaron.

ResponEliminaLa verdad es que a estos dos libros los leí y no me parecieron tan geniales como los pintan, sentí que es un copy and paste de Wikipedia sobre algunas mujeres famosas. En su mayoría son todas reconocidas y no hay ninguna que aporte algo nuevo.
Si bien es un libro para niñas en adelante me parece que podrían jugársela a dar más datos interesantes.
Me alegra que te hayan gustado mucho, unos que me han encantado fueron los de la colección que comienzan por "Mujeres de Ciencia: 50 Pioneras Intrépidas Que Cambiaron El Mundo" y me encantó, está super completo, tiene ilustraciones más elaboradas y la decoración de las hojas es maravillosa.

¡Hola! Tenemos el primero en casa, para leerlo con mi peque cuando sea un poco más mayor- Porque lo intenté hace un tiempo (tenía entonces unos 3 años) y no le llamó la atención. Pero a mí personalmente me gusta mucho porque las historias son muy breves y las ilustraciones muy bonitas.

I absolutely love these books and bought them both for my daughter. The newest one about immigrant women is on our Christmas list. The only thing that bothers me about the series is actually the title...If we want to normalize these actions for girls, calling the women in these pages 'rebels' seems to go against that normalization. Even so, this is just my own little hiccup and we love these books SO MUCH.

EliminaYes!! And we want these women to be the standard, not the exceptions. Then ALL girls will know they too are capable of great things, and it is okay to be powerful and do those great things.
